Use WMI to list published virtual packages - App-V 5.0 & 5.1

Recently I read an article from David Falkus as how to use WMI to list App-V applications published to the machine.You can use this method if not able to access Powershell and also this method can help in basic troubleshooting. I experimented this and it seems to be very useful. Below are the steps as how to use WMI to list published applications and connection groups.


1. Open Run and type wbemtest.



2. Select Connect button.




3. Enter root\appv and click connect.




4. Click Enum Instances.




5. Enter AppvClientPackage and click ok. Also you can use AppvClientConnectionGroup to list the published Connection Groups.




6. This will list the packages that are published to the machine.




7. When you double click the package it will list the properties of the package like InUse, PackageID, VersionID etc.




8. This method is similar to that of using Get-AppvClientPackage in Powershell.

Earlier when trying to install the Advanced Installer created virtual package through MSI format in windows 10 anniversary update 1607, it failed to install with the below error. This issue is caused because of a launch condition in MSI which has been set to check for App-V client installed as a pre-requisite. UAC and App-V 5.0 Demystified

There are some methods through which we can suppress UAC prompts when virtualizing using App-V 5.0. You can try the below methods which ever suits your need. 1. SET __COMPAT_LAYER: Edit the sequenced shortcut and add the below command. cmd.exe /c “SET __COMPAT_LAYER=RunAsInvoker & START Appname.exe” Note: There is a space in between SET and __COMPAT_LAYER. If you didn't leave any space it will throw an error. "SET' is not recognized as an internal or external command. 2. Registry Method: Right click on the shortcut and select properties-compatibility-privilege level- run as admin-apply. This will create a registry entry in the HKCU\HKLM based upon User/Machine selection. Sequencing Google Chrome using App-V 5.1

1)  Launch the Microsoft Application Virtualization Sequencer from Start->Programs 2)  Select the "Standard application" type in the Type of Application to be Virtualized 3)  Select "Perform a custom installation" in the select installer screen Provide the virtual application name as Google Chrome and click next. 4)  Before the application is installed, make sure that the below registy entries are placed to disable the updates.
